چکیده
As a priority-setting exercise, we examined interactions between users and a simple spoken dialog system in comparison to interactions with a human operator. Based on analysis of the observed usability differences and their root causes we propose seven priority issues for spoken dialog systems research. keywords: evaluation, human-computer interaction, human-human dialog, usability events, human factors, time, speech

متن کاملRoot causes of lost time and user stress in a simple dialog system
As a priority-setting exercise, we compared interactions between users and a simple spoken dialog system to interactions between users and a human operator. We observed usability events, places in which system behavior differed from human behavior, and for each we noted the impact, root causes, and prospects for improvement. We suggest some priority issues for research, involving not only such ...
متن کاملMulti-modal Spoken Dialog with Wireless Devices1
We discuss the various issues related to the design and implementation of multi-modal spoken dialog systems with wireless client devices. In particular we discuss the design of a usable interface that exploits the complementary features of the audio and visual channels to enhance usability. We then describe two client-server architectures in which we implemented applications for mapping and nav...

متن کاملThe provision of corrective feedback in a spoken dialogue CALL system
In this paper we report on the development of a spoken dialogue system for computer aided language learning (CALL), and explore some of the issues involved in the incorporation of a corrective feedback module. We initially developed a small prototype system, and tested it for usability with visiting students of English as a foreign language. In the light of the positive results we obtained for ...
